Step 1 – Set-up the game
The first step is to set up a set of flash cards with pictures and a set of matching word cards. We found a good selection of printable flashcards on www.activityvillage.co.uk. You may wish to choose a theme for your word board game, for this game we chose the theme “the human body”. You will also need a whiteboard or an alternative board to write on.
Step 2 – Lay out the flash cards
The next step is to lay out a selection of picture cards on a tabletop and stick a small piece of blu tack behind each card. Lay the corresponding word cards underneath the image cards.
Step 3 – Play the word board game
The next step is to ask the child that is playing the game to select and image and stick it onto the white board. Then ask them pick up the matching word card, give them time to observe and study the word and then ask them to try to write the word under the image card on the board.
