Step 1 – Print out love heart templates
The first step involves printing two love heart shapes, one larger than the other. This can be achieved by using shapes in Microsoft Word, or alternatively you can print love heart templates from the internet. We found great templates on www.activityvillage.co.uk.
Step 2 – Cut out and decorate the smaller love heart
An adult can assist to cut the smaller heart shape out of white paper or card. The next step is the most fun for children as they can decorate and customise the love heart to their own unique design. Younger children may prefer to use alphabet stickers to create the word LOVE. They may also choose to create their own design using colouring pencils, markers and a selection of stickers.
Step 3 – Cut out the larger love heart
An adult can help out to cut out the larger heart shape. This can be achieved using a printed heart shape template; place the printed hart shape on top of the red paper and cut through both the printed page and the red paper.
Step 4 – Stick the smaller love heart onto the larger love heart and attach ribbon
The next step is to use a glue stick to stick the smaller heart shape onto the larger heart shape. An adult can also assist to punch a single hole on either side of the red love heart. Ribbon can then be threaded through the holes and tied to create a loop to hang the love heart.
Step 5 – Use tissue paper to make craft flowers
The final step is to create flowers around the frame of the red love heart. This step can easily be achieved by showing children how to scrunch a small piece of craft tissue paper in their hand and then attach it to the paper heart with glue.
Step 6 – Time to present a wonderful Valentine’s Gift
The final step is to present the final creation as a wonderful Valentine’s Gift to a special loved one!
