Step 1: Prepare the materials
If you choose to use contact lens solution for this slime recipe, you have to choose a contact lens solution that contains boric acid as this reacts with the PVA glue to create the stretchy slime substance. We purchased “Bausch & Lomb Sensitive Eyes Saline Solution”.
Step 2: Add the glue
In a bowl add 1 cup of PVA glue. If you wish you can choose to add 1 or 2 tablespoons of water and mix them together.
Step 3: Add baking soda
The next step is to add 1 level teaspoon of baking soda to the mix and combine the ingredients together.
Step 4: Add the contact lens solution
The next step is to mix in 1 tablespoon of contact lens solution and mix throughout. You can experiment with the texture of the slime.
If you feel the slime is too sticky, gradually add another drop of contact lens solution. You can begin to knead the slime and keep mixing until you achieve your desired stretchy texture for slime. You will also notice that it will get thicker after a few minutes.
Step 5: Add items to create texture
Once you are happy with the texture of your slime you can begin to add extra items to create texture. Children can choose to add multiple items including foam balls, glitter, and small gems.
Step 6: Hide items within the slime
If you have mini toys or objects children will love to hide them in the slime and then they will need to explore the slime to seek out the object and retrieve it.
This provides a sensory element to the project and children love the experience of trying to rescue their mini toys from the slime!
