Step 1: Dip string in paint
First you need to take a sheet of white A4 paper and set up a selection of acrylic paints, then it’s time to start creating!
Children will love the next step: simply take a piece of string and dip it into the paint. Once the string has been covered in paint, lay the string on the paper. Then take another piece of string and repeat the process.
Children may choose to lay their strings in a specific design on the page, for example they may wish to make a love heart pattern, or alternatively they may choose to simply let the string fall loosely on the page to create an abstract design.
Step 2: Fold the paper in half
Once all of the string had been painted and laid on the paper, a fun technique to try out is folding the paper in half. Once you have folded the paper in half, use your hand to gently rub over the paper. This will mirror a similar design on both sides of the paper which can have beautiful results. If you have glitter you can also sprinkle some within the folded paper and it will stick to the wet paint.
Step 3: Remove the painted string
Once you have completed folding your paper and patting it down, you can gently open the paper again. Now it is time to carefully remove the painted string from the paper to reveal the wonderful patterns underneath!
Step 4: Display your work
Once your artwork has been completed it is time to lay it out to dry and to select your favourite pieces to display!
