Step 1: Create the potato stamps
The children will love the process of selecting potatoes to use. An adult can then use a knife to cut the potatoes into slices. Each slice can then be used as a potato stamp by using different shaped cookie cutters to press down into the potato. Once you have completed the creation of your potato stamps and placed them in a bowl or container they are ready to start stamping!
Step 2: Create artwork using potato stamping painting
You can set up containers of poster paints providing a selection of bright colours for the children to choose from. Then it is as simple as dipping a potato stamp into the paint and placing the stamp firmly down on a piece of white paper. Accuracy doesn’t matter as even if the stamps move on the page it can produce beautiful results of streaked paint on the paper.
A sprinkle of glitter added after each stamp will add extra sparkle as it will stick to the paint.
Step 3: Create a display of themed artwork
The children can experiment with all sorts of patterns and designs to create a vibrant display of artwork. When they are finished you can group their paintings together to create a themed display which will light up any wall or picture frame.
