Step 1: Prepare the materials
All you need for this project is a toilet roll, some paint, a piece of parchment paper and a rubber band. You will also need a selection of poster paints.
Step 2: Paint the toilet roll
Children will love being involved in the design by painting their own toilet roll. They can choose to use paint brushes, or alternatively sponges work very well for little hands.
Also try using the sponge to dab on a different colour for a vibrant and fun paint effect. Once the toilet roll has been painted leave it to dry.
Step 3: Attach the parchment paper
The next step is cut a piece of parchment paper slightly bigger than the size of the toilet roll. Then using a rubber band, secure the parchment paper over the top of the toilet roll.
Step 4: Create a pin hole
The final step is to create a tiny hole in the centre of the kazoo. This can be achieved using the end of a drawing compass, or alternatively you can use a sharp pencil.
Step 5: Experiment with sound
Once the kazoo has been completed children will have endless fun exploring it’s unique sound by blowing into the open end of the kazoo, it takes a little practice!
