Step 1 – Create loveheart templates
You can either draw or print out templates for love hearts on white paper. We found a selection of love heart templates on www.activityvillage.co.uk. Lay the paper with the template design facing up and sellotape the corners of the white paper onto a table.
Step 2 – Place contact paper over the templates
You will need contact paper for this step. Cut a rectangle of contact paper in a similar size to the template paper, peel off the top layer of the contact paper and place it over the template paper, with sticky side up, and sellotape the corners of the contact paper onto the table. You will now see the shape of the loveheart templates through the contact paper.
Step 3 – Collect flower petals
Children will love browsing the garden to find suitable flowers. Once you have a selection of flowers, gently detach the petals and arrange them in containers.
Step 4 – Design the love hearts
Simply arrange the petals by attaching them to the sticky side of the contact paper, ensuring to stay within the template for each love heart.
Step 5 – Seal the love hearts
When the design is complete, cut out another piece of contact paper approximately the same size as the love heart templates. Peel off the top layer of the contact paper and lay it facing sticky side down on the finished petals designs. Gently pat out and flatten the contact paper in order for it to neatly seal against the underneath layer of contact paper.
Step 6 – Cut out the love heart sun catchers
Once the contact paper has been sealed, use a scissors to cut out each individual love heart. A hole punch can then be used to create a small hole on the top of each love heart.
Step 7 -Thread ribbon through the love hearts and display them within a window
You can choose to thread ribbon through each love heart individually or thread them together to make a love heart chain. Once the ribbon has been attached you can display them in the window where the lighting with shine through the beautiful colours of the flower petals!
