Step 1: Prepare the materials
The first step is to prepare the materials. You will need to source some tins with plastic lids. Washed formula tins work very well for this task, other options include gravy tins and lids.
You will also need wrapping paper, glue or sellotape and a selection of suitable items to place in the tins.
Finally you will need a selection of items that are suitable for placing in the tins. We chose a selection of different sized craft pom-poms, small lollipop sticks and large lollipop sticks.
Step 2: Cover the tin in wrapping paper
The next step is to cover the tin in wrapping paper. This can be easily achieved by marking out the correct size of paper with a pencil and ruler, cutting the paper and then gluing it onto the tin.
Step 3: Cut holes out of the plastic lids
An adult must carry out this step as a paper blade will work best for this task. Simply cut various holes in the lids of the tins which are suitable for the items you wish to place into the tin. You may choose to create a small hole and a large hole in one lids, and cut slots for lollipop sticks in another lid, again these may include small slots and large slots.
Step 4: Gather suitable items to place within tins
The next step is to gather the items that you have selected that will be suitable for placing inside the holes, such as craft pom-poms and lollipop sticks.
Step 5: Time to play
Young children will love playing with this toy time and time again, they will love to explore attempting to place the objects in various slots and working out why some objects don’t fit in the small slots and so on.
When all of the items have been placed in the tin they will love emptying it out and starting all over again!
