Step 1: Prepare the materials
The biggest part of this project is preparing the workspace. You may have a suitable location where you can lay protective sheets on the floor. It is also beneficial to set up a wash-basin or area where the children can wash their feet after the activity. You will also need a selection of paint brushes and poster paints.
Step 2: Paint a foot
This part is so much fun as painting feet can be quite tiggly so there will be lots of laughter! You can choose to paint with just one colour or create a rainbow effect using stripes of different colours. Apply a generous amount of paint to achieve a vibrant effect.
Step 3: Stamp the painted foot on paper
Once you have completed painting a foot, each child can carefully press or stamp their foot onto a piece of white paper and you will see the wonderful footprint transfer onto the paper. They can continue to stamp their foot on different pieces of paper and they can experiment with different effects by moving their foot when stamping, or just stamping with their heel or toes.
Step 4: Select your favourite stamp painting and frame
When your feet stamping activity has been completed you can leave the paintings out to dry. Later, you can select your favourite foot stamp to frame or display.
It’s lovely to write a date on the painting as, in a few months time, children will love to place their feet on the painting to see how much their foot has grown!
Step 5: Experiment with hand prints
Of course if you are going to paint your feet you should experiment with hand prints too! Children will equally have fun painting their hands and stamping them on paper to create beautiful artwork!
