Step 1: Set up the materials
The first step involves setting up a few simple materials. The project can get a little messy so it’s good to choose a location that is protected from paint or foam spillage. This project works well by using a plastic box, then simply setup a table with a tin of shaving foam, a selection of acrylic paints, a few paint brushes and mixing tools and sheets of standard A4 paper.
Step 2: Spray shaving foam within the plastic box
The first step is so simple, just spray a generous quantity of shaving foam into the plastic container.
Step 3: Add paint to the foam mixture
The next step is to add a few drops of a particular paint colour and then children will love the excitement of using their plastic tools to twist the paint within the foam to make a glorious creation of swirling coloured foam!
Step 4: Add some toys for sensory play
To add a sensory dimension, try choosing a few suitable toys or objects that could be added to the foam box, this will add an element of play and adventure!
Step 5: Gently press A4 paper into the foam design
Once the children have finished playing with the foam and once they have added all of the paint colours they wish, it’s then time to create some artwork. Simply take a piece of A4 paper and gently press it down into the foam. When you remove the paper from the box the foam, along with a beautiful swirling design will have transferred onto the paper.
Step 6: Create a display of foam artwork
The final step is to lay the finished pieces of paper out on a table to create a display of foam artwork, and marvel at the amazing twirling foam designs. The paper will eventually dry out leaving the paintwork imprinted on the paper.
