Step 1: Prepare the materials
If you choose to use contact lens solution for this slime recipe, you have to choose a contact lens solution that contains boric acid as this reacts with the PVA glue to create the stretchy slime substance. We purchased “Bausch & Lomb Sensitive Eyes Saline Solution”.
Step 2: Add the glue
This first step is set out a bowl for each colour of slime that you intend to make, it’s also fun to keep one bowl for white slime to compare against the other colours. Add 1 cup of PVA glue to each bowl.
Step 3: Add colour
This is the fun part, take each bowl of slime individually and add a few drops of your chosen food colour. You may also choose to mix food dyes to experiment with new colours.
Once you have added the dye, use a spoon to mix the dye thoroughly into the glue to make the colour consistent throughout.
Step 4: Add baking soda
For this step add 1 level teaspoon of baking soda to each bowl that has been prepared with PVA glue, then mix and combine the ingredients together within each bowl.
Step 5: Add the contact lens solution
The next step is to add in 1 tablespoon of contact lens solution into each bowl and mix throughout. You can then knead the slime as this will make the slime more stretchy after a few minutes.
Step 6: Test out your new slime creations
Your new slime is now ready to be laid out to test! Children will enjoy exploring and comparing each different slime creation.
It’s fun to choose each child’s favourite slime by comparing the various slime colours and observing the differences in texture and stretchiness of each individual slime. Children may also wish to then experiment further by mixing the coloured slimes together and observing the results!
