Project Details – Sensory Jungle Project
Step 1 – Set up the project
The first two items you will require for the project are a wheelbarrow or bucket and a large plastic box.
We decided to use a large plastic box from Ikea. It had a lid which meant that once we had completed the project we could store the box in a dry location in the garden.
Step 2 – Collect suitable nature items for the project
Once you have a wheelbarrow or bucket the children can explore to find a wide range of nature items that can be used in the project, this can include rocks, stones leaves, branches, twigs and flowers.
Step 3 – Build the base of the project
An adult can assist to source some soil or sand to fill the base of the plastic container. The children can then arrange the rocks and stones to begin designing their jungle.
Step 4 – Build the landscape
Children will love designing their own jungle landscape by incorporating all of the items they have collected from their outdoor environment. Encourage them to talk through the different areas they might create, such as an area shaded with large branches to provide the animals with shelter or shade from the sun.
Step 5 – Add a pond
By using a small plastic container you can easily create a pond where the children will enjoy dipping the animals in the water.
Step 6 – Add the animals
The final step is to add the animals, the children may choose to place them in groups or families and they can build separate habitats for each group.
Step 7 – Time to play
After all their hard work, the best part is getting to play with their final creation, the children will love bringing their animals on many adventures through their new jungle!
