Step 1: Gather the nature items and set up the materials
You may choose to go on a nature walk and have lots of fun using buckets to collect a large array of nature items for your leaf stamp painting project. Once the leaves have been collected, you can wash and dry the leaves with paper towel and place them in a large bowl ready for use within your project.
The next step is to set up a table with a selection of poster paints and paint brushes, containers of water and a selection of white paper.
Step 2: Choose a leaf and paint it
Leaf stamp painting is so simple and so much fun. All you have to do is choose a leaf, carefully paint it, ensuring that an even amount of paint is distributed over the entire leaf.
Step 3: Turn the leaf over and press down
Once the leaf has been painted, turn the leaf over so that the side with the paint is facing the white paper, and gently place the leaf firmly on the paper and pat down.
Step 4: Peel the leaf away from the paper
This step requires you to gently peel the leaf back off the paper and you will see that the imprint of the leaf has been embedded on the white paper leaving a beautiful leaf design.
Step 5: Experiment with alternative nature items
We had so much fun using helicopters! These are the seeds from the maple tree and are known as “samaras”. Children will love the excitement of dipping these in paint and then spinning them around while watching the paint glide onto the page to create wonderful designs that give a sense of movement within them.
Step 6: Lay your work out to dry
The final step is to lay all of your artwork out to dry and you can then select the pieces you love the most and you may choose to frame them as they would make a perfect present, or decorative piece to brighten up any home!
