Step 1 – Prepare the materials
The first step is to set-up the game. You will need flash cards with numbers, we found a good selection of printable flashcards on www.activityvillage.co.uk. You will also need a timer.
Step 2 – Learn about odd and even numbers
The next step is a learning step; ask the player to lay out the number cards in the correct sequence from numbers 1 to 10. Then ask the player to move each even number upwards to create a row of even numbers.
Give them time to study and explore the two rows of numbers that they have created: one row of odd numbers, and one row of even numbers.
Step 3 – Set-up the game
Once the learning step has been completed, gather all of the number cards into a deck of cards and shuffle them. Then place the pile of cards on the table.
Step 4 – Play the game
To start the game, press the timer to begin. The player then must take the first card from the deck of number cards and place it on the table.
The player must then take the second card from the deck. If the number is even, and the number card that is currently on the desk is even, they must place the card on top of the existing card, if not they must place the card beside it.
The player must continue to take a number card from the top of the deck and they must place it on the table creating two piles of cards: one pile of even numbers and one pile of odd numbers. When they have placed all cards from the deck they must record their time.
Step 5 – Repeat the game to achieve your personal best
This is a great game to play multiple times as the player will get quicker each time they play and they can challenge themselves to beat their personal best!
